Gihaya is one of the Lake Kivu islands within the Rwandan boundaries.  The island is located at about 2 Kilometers from Emeraude Kivu Resort. Considering the challenging hardship that the population of this island is experiencing and subsequent threats they pose to the lake, the management of Emeraude Kivu Resort has decided to open up win-win opportunities for this population in order to support their resolve to confront these challenges and to mitigate these threats to the lake.

In this respect, our management is working with a Gihaya women cooperative to make baskets sold at Emeraude Kivu Resort and to promote their culture through dancing and boat racing on Lake Kivu.
